Open Borders: In due time.

For those of you Libertarians at heart who feel the US should open her borders and allow free travel to and from abroad there are a few things that will have to occur first. The notion of open borders will never gain popularity until we have rid ourselves of the welfare state. As long as illegal aliens enter the US and work for cash while collecting food stamps and other welfare handouts earned by hard working Americans, it will never happen. It is a novel idea, but we have to accomplish our goals in a specific order.

There was a time before we gave green cards and food stamps to criminals when those who came to the US came to work and take advantage of the free market we had at that time. These were people who helped to build this country. They would never think of having the government steal the proceeds of ones labor and give it to them. Remember, it used to be that receiving charity was shameful. These legal immigrants came to the united States of America and worked hard to learn English so that they could be Americans.

Times have changed. Now aliens can illegally enter this country and we not only give them food stamps, pay for them to attend our schools and provide health care, we will give many of them a green card and reward them for their illegal activity. These criminals have no respect for the law and have openly claimed they have no desire to be Americans. Those who condone this behavior argue that these people just want to work and earn a better life for themselves. Why, then, are they receiving food stamps? Would you permit burglars to go free because he stole your valuables to feed his family? A criminal is a criminal. It is also a Libertarian ideal for people to take responsibility for their criminal behavior. None of them should be rewarded for criminal behavior. Let your representatives know how you feel. If they won't do what we Americans expect of them, we can find someone else who will.

It should also be pointed out that the notion of an "open border" does not mean that we just let anyone who wants to come into our country. Even the Libertarian Party website offers a solution in their party platform that does not condone wide open unobstructed borders. Their solution make sense, since it does not permit the entry of people carrying communicable diseases, criminals or anyone else who might threaten the security of our country. It does permit anyone else who would be a productive member of society.

The states along the southern border have the right to defend themselves, too. As Citizens of these states, you can pressure you state representatives to do something about the border. After all, the states are still the supreme authority in the land. They federal government only has the authority over the states outside the limits of the Constitution that the states give it. We hear Governor Arnold claim that it is not his responsibility to rid the State of California of criminal immigrants, who have literally taken control of southern California. These are the words of a coward who lacks the spine to do what is right. He is passing the buck when the governor of any state is supposed to be where the buck stops. The governor of every state in the Union has his own National Guard specifically to defend the States Territory.

You can help by joining our forum and divulging the whereabouts of criminal immigrants and the companies for which they work. Who knows? If the federal government won't do its job and deport these criminal immigrants, maybe some concerned citizens will by dumping these criminal immigrants back across the border from which they came. One can only hope.
